Maharaja Textile Weaves Patriotism Through Drawing Competition and Community Engagement

Tamil Nadu, India : Maharaja Textile has continued its commitment to social responsibility by organising an inspiring annual drawing competition that celebrates national pride and creativity. The company’s 4th continued drawing competition, titled “Suthandhira Kaaviyam Neengalum Varayalam Oviyam” (Freedom Epic You Can Paint), has become a platform for school students across Tamil Nadu to express their artistic vision.   In 2023, the competition witnessed extraordinary participation, with students from 296 schools in Thanjavur submitting over 40,000 drawings. Ramanathapuram followed closely with 248 schools, contributing 29,000 artworks, while Thiruvarur presented 25,000 drawings from 200 schools. The competition’s structure encouraged creativity through attractive prize incentives: ₹10,000 for the first prize, ₹5,000 for the second, and ₹3,000 for the third.   The initiative isn’t bound to a competition, but it represents Maharaja Textile’s commitment to social responsibility and youth empowerment. By encouraging students to explore themes of freedom and national pride through art, the company aims to instil a sense of patriotism and historical awareness among young learners.   Tracing back to its roots, Maharaja Textile began as a modest 500 sq ft store in Kalavai in 1936. Over 84 years, the enterprise has transformed dramatically, expanding to six direct stores covering more than 3 lakh square feet.   The vision of founder Mr. Hajee M.M. Shahul Hameed has been instrumental in the company’s growth. His guiding philosophy emphasises understanding and adapting to customer preferences, a principle that has been consistently implemented since the brand’s inception. This customer-centric approach has been crucial in expanding the business to key locations, including Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Ramanathapuram, and Thiruvarur.   With the opening of the Seematti showroom in Thiruvarur in 2018, the brand’s reputation for providing exceptional customer service was further cemented. Its success story is deeply rooted in its ability to offer diverse varieties, exclusive designs, and authentic brands that resonate with customers.   By giving young artists a stage to express themselves, the company demonstrates its broader mission of community engagement. It displays an all-encompassing approach to business that extends beyond commercial interests, focusing on social impact and youth development.
